Domotex 2016 - The World of Flooring

 

Free Guided Tours with 8 architects, designers and journalists – in cooperation with Stylepark and Deutsche Messe, World-Architects organised Guided Tours with Christina Biasi-von Berg, Stefan Diez, Thomas Geuder, Dorothee Maier, André Schmidt, Julia Schneider, Lien Tran, Klaus de Winder. The tours were held in English or German, started at the Innovations@DOMOTEX Area in Hall 6 F30 and lasted approximately 2 hours. Each of the tours pointed out highlights at DOMOTEX 2016, the leading trade fair for floor coverings.

Stefan Diez – Impressions

Stefan Diez introduction to furniture design started in 1991 when for three years he worked as a cabinet maker. Diez went on to study at Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Stuttgart in 1996 where he attained a Diploma in Industrial Design. He founded his studio in 2003 and since then has worked in various fields of design ranging from furniture and tableware to industrial design, as well as exhibition design for companies like Authentics, e15, Gandia Blasco, Hay, Moroso, Rosenthal, Thonet, Wilkhahn and others. Some of his products have received international design awards, among others the “Designpreis der Bundesrepublik Deutschland”, the “IF Gold award” and the “red dot best of the best award”. Since 2007 he is Professor for Industrial Design at the HFG Karlsruhe. Diez works intensively with materials, technology and is passionate in his quest to fathom out their limitations. Together with his office they develop products that are precise, yet simple and above all are meant to meet human needs.

Christina Biasi-von Berg – Impressions

Christina Biasi-von Berg is owner of Biquadra, an interior architecture studio in Merano (South Tyrol, Italy) that is specialized in hotel interior design and renovations of existing buildings. Born in Ansbach (Germany), she studied interior architecture at the Polytechnic in Rosenheim (Germany) and subsequently earned a Masters degree in Interior and Industrial Design at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan. From 1999 to 2004 she worked for Matteo Thun & Partners in Milan. Of particular importance during this time was her collaboration in the interior planning and onsite artistic supervision of the pilot project for the Vapiano restaurants in Hamburg and of the hotel projects Vigilius Mountain Resort and Pergola Residence in South Tyrol. Her working approach is sensitive and delicate, respectful of the building’s and place’s history and spirit. Her aim is to create unique and aesthetically high-quality spaces and buildings that shall withstand the course of time and express their own distinctive soul. Christina Biasi von Berg is a member of the Bavarian Chamber of Architects since 2005. 2011 she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Architecture at the University of Innsbruck.

André Schmidt – Impressions

André Schmidt was trained at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Paris-Belleville and at the Technical University of Karlsruhe, KIT. Shortly after his graduation he first joined OMA Asia in 2000 in Hong Kong, where he worked on projects in Korea such as the SK-Telecom Headquarters building in Seoul. Back in Europe he gained further experience with the German-French firm Labfac on various projects in Germany before he joined OMA / Rem Koolhaas in Rotterdam for the CCTV headquarters project in 2003. André started with the masterplanning and later joining the team for CCTV’s sibling TVCC. In 2005 he transferred to Beijing, where he acted as project architect for TVCC. During this pre-olympic period, he has published a book on Beijings rapid urban transformation. André successfully led the design competition for the Taipei Performing Arts Center, which is currently under construction. He stayed with OMA as Associate until January 2009, when he relocated to New York to take on a teaching assignment as visiting critic at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in Providence. In 2010 André moved to Denmark to work with Bjarke Ingels Group, BIG. As project director and Associate he lead numerous large scale projects, including super-tall high rise projects, gaining further extensive international work experience within Europe and Asia. André stayed with BIG until end of 2013. Since 2014 André is the principal of MATTER, a practice for Architecture and Urbanism based in Berlin.

Julia Schneider – Impressions

Julia Schneider established her own interior design and interior architecture company in Munich this year. “iam interior.architects.munich”. After studies in history of arts at the LMU (Ludwig Maximilian University) in Munich from 1995 to 1996 Julia Schneider started her studies in interior architecture at the University of Applied Sciences in Rosenheim and graduated in 2001. During her studies Julia got experience working as assistance for her Professor Klaus Schmidhuber in Munich and as apprentice for 1100 architects in New York City. From 2001 to 2004 “Schmidhuber und Partner” and from 2004 to 2006 for “O.S.A” in Munich were her creative homes and school for creating her own style. 2006 Julia Schneider founded her first interior architecture office “atelier sv” with her former partner and founded iam this year.

Lien Tran – Impressions

The interior designer Lien Tran was born in 1975 in Vietnam to Chinese parents and has been living in Germany since the age of three. Growing up in Europe, she was strongly influenced by Western culture, but still finds inspiration in her Asian heritage. She seeks to combine the features of these two distinct worlds to transmit her unique perspective through her work. After her interior design studies in Coburg and Hildesheim, she worked for Elsa Prochazka in Vienna and Yasmine Mahmoudieh in Berlin. In 2006, she founded her own studio for architecture and design and now works with her team on national and international projects.

Klaus de Winder – Impressions

Involvement in the founding of the Potsdam University architecture department and university teaching assignments in Berlin, Konstanz and Halifax, Nova Scotia are as much a part of his resume as completed projects such as the Munster Technology Centre with Bolles + Wilson and the multiple award-winning Photonics Centre with sauerbruch hutton architects. Since 1999, he and his wife, Claudia de Winder, have led their own office in Berlin with an emphasis on office design for prominent new economy enterprises, law firms and the consulting industry.
